IT can be a very stressful job at times so it is pretty common to see IT people good around from time to time to ease the tension. On one such occasion I was on the receiving end of a typical IT prank. The easiest way to mess with an IT guy is to mess with his keyboard or mouse. This is exactly how they tried to get me. They placed some IDE hard drive jumpers under my space bar to prevent it from going down. Needless to say it was pretty easy to see what was going on. The is only one response necessary in a situation like this, and that is a completely well thought out and more extravagant prank. So I made my target his mouse this time. I taped a thin client under his desk and plugged his mouse in to it. This way the laser on the bottom of the mouse would still light up while keeping the mouse completely non functional. It took about 5 minutes to figure it out.
It is all about the little things that make it fun to be an IT guy.
